Providing a Medical Cannabis Prescription

Patients are able to purchase medical cannabis from a Licensed Producer (LP) of their choice once they have obtained medical documentation from a healthcare professional. By providing your patients with a medical document, you are supporting the first steps of their journey to cannabis care.

The original medical document can be securely submitted to Abba Medix via fax at 905-492-8420. You can reach out to our team directly with any questions at 1-844-696-3349.

Dosing with Cannabis

Dried Flower

Cannabis is available in multiple cultivars that differ in potency and terpene composition. Determining the optimal therapeutic dose for each patient is highly individualized.

Experts suggests starting with a low dose and increasing slowly. A typical starting dose falls between 1-3 grams per day.  Cannabinoid levels (example: THC or CBD) vary by product; as with other medications, individual responses will vary. Consult with your cannabis clinic or healthcare practitioner for what is best for you.

Dosing is dependent on a patients experience with cannabis, general guidelines for vaporizing are: inhale 1-2 times; each inhalation should be brief and followed by a deep breath in and out of the lungs. Wait 10-15 minutes for the cannabis to take effect. If the effect is sufficient, this is your dose. If the effect is insufficient, inhale 1-2 additional times and wait another 10-15 minutes. Repeat as necessary until reaching the desired effect.

Edibles

THC impacts a patients experience differently when it's ingested rather than inhaled. After digestion, the liver transforms THC into 11-hydroxy-THC, a more potent form of THC, that lasts longer, and has a more sedating effect.

It can take 30-90 mins before the onset of effects are felt.  The peak effects of ingested cannabis are often not achieved for up to 2 hours.  The effects of cannabis can last for up 6-8 hours. *

*Effects vary on an individual basis.

Concentrates

Cannabis concentrates are highly potent and contain an average of 60% to 99% THC. Outside of traditionally pre-filled vapes, cannabis concentrates can be consumed in larger quantities via a dab rig.

Dabbing concentrates is considered an advanced consumption method, and as such, it is not recommended for beginner cannabis consumers. *

* Effects vary on an individual basis. Consult with your cannabis clinic or healthcare practitioner for what is best for you.

Topicals

Topicals are cannabis-infused products that come in a variety of mediums such as lotions and bath bombs. A patient applies these directly to the skin to relieve an ailment. Cannabis used in topicals will allow cannabinoids to be absorbed into the bloodstream at a slower rate than smoking or ingesting cannabis, so the effects of topicals are typically felt only where they're used without the THC producing no entourage effect.

Since there's usually little to no high, topicals can be a great choice for people who want relief without the full intoxicating side effects.

* Effects vary on an individual basis.
